You are no longer in the Mid-West when...

(1) You are not allowed to back into a parking space in your employers parking lot because the exhaust from your vehicle would kill the plants in the "bioswale". If you are from the mid-west and have never heard of a bioswale, check it out at this link --> Bioswales.

(2) You receive the garbage receptacles issued by the local waste management company and they are as follows: (1) 98 gallon wheeled can for recyclables, (1) 63 gallon wheeled can for yard debris, (1) 1' x 2' x 1' bin for glass & motor oil recycling, and - FINALLY- (1) 36 gallon wheeled can for trash. Notice that the smallest of the wheeled cans is actually for garbage! All four receptacles must be lined up along the curb on trash day for the 3 separate trucks that come around with the automatic lift and dump arms to empty them. You must also realize that the houses in our addition are so close together that these 4 receptacles take up most of the available curb space in the neighborhood on trash day. :-)

Stay tuned for more of "You are no longer in the Mid-West when..." in future postings.
