Ice, Ice Baby!

Ice on our van antenna. Troy adds perspective.

Our front yard after ice storm.

As most of you know, we were scheduled to travel back to the mid-west for the Christmas holidays. Our last week of school prior to the holidays was completely canceled due to a rare snow storm in the Portland area. The strange weather continued and instead of flying out of Portland on our 12th anniversary (December 21st), we instead had to chisel ourselves out of our ice-encased home. Another 8+ inches of snow on top of the ice really finished off the winter wonderland and left Oregonians stranded at home for days. We were finally able to fly out of Portland on Dec. 24th and had a very eventful trip both ways. (When we finally arrived home in January, we counted that we had been officially booked on 11 different flights at some point in our trip! :-) We were able to keep our sense of humor through most of it. We had a wonderful visit with family and friends that made all the trouble worthwhile! Here are some photos of the ice before the 2nd layer of snow arrived. - Lisa.

We have the same wedding anniversary--winter solstice--but this was our 13th! Did we already know that about each other? I'm glad you finally made it to Indiana but I have to say, I am not in the least bit jealous and was quite happy to stay "at home" in Portland.
