King of the Mountain - Troy's Turn

We spent this weekend at Mt. Rainier National Park. I must admit that it greatly exceeded my expectations!!! I had thought - we see Mt. Hood every day, is it really worth driving 4 hours to visit Mt. Rainier? Answer: Yes! Mt. Rainier and the surrounding Tatoosh Range of mountains are incredible. I am constantly amazed at the beauty of our God's creation!!!

The original purpose of our trip was for Troy and his riding buddy, Todd, to ride over one of the passes around Mt. Rainier. We booked rooms at Crystal Mountain Ski resort - a beautiful and affordable place to stay in the summer time. Our family arrived Friday evening. The boys declared our condo the best room they had ever seen. Their room had bunk beds, an angled ceiling, and the door to their room also had an angled top to match the ceiling. Carter's favorite part was that he had his own reading lamp extending from the wall over his bed. Isn't it funny what fascinates kids?

We met Todd, his mother and friends at Paradise (6800 ft. elevation) on Saturday at 11am. Troy and Todd proceeded to ride from Paradise to Sunrise (6400 ft. elevation) via Cayuse Pass. The ride was 58 miles and approximately 6000 ft. of climbing over the route. The rest of the group did some light hiking at Paradise and then drove to Sunrise to pick them up.

The boys favorite part of the weekend was the outdoor heated pool at our condo. The outdoor temperature at night was about 50 degrees F. But the pool was heated to 88 degrees and we swam under the nighttime sky each evening (allowing the boys to stay up way too late). It was a great time!!!

Thanks for caring enough to keep up with our family!
-Lisa.
