You are no longer in the mid-west (or at least central Indiana) when the snow forecast is given by elevation. We have recently become accustomed to weather reports like "snow level will be between 500 - 1000 ft". Downtown Portland is basically at sea level. Greshem (where Troy works) is 300 - 500 ft, and Sandy (where we live) is 1000 ft. So we have enjoyed a significant amount of snow in the last couple of weeks while Portland has had only rain. And ski resorts on Mt. Hood are boasting a base of 16 feet! :-) Another difference from the mid-west is that the temperature - to my knowledge - has not dropped below 28 degrees in Sandy. So the snow is short-lived. Here are some pictures to show that we did enjoy it while it was here.
